স্বর্ণেন্দু সেনগুপ্তর কবিতা লেখা আরম্ভ নতুন শতকের শুরুর দশকে। বর্তমান সময়ের খণ্ডবৈচিত্র্যের ভিতরে তাঁর রচনাকে চেনা যায় ভিন্নতর প্রতিভায়, যাকে বলা যায় বি- কল্পনার রঙ, বলা যেতে পারে শ্বেতাভ প্রত্যয়। রূপকথা হয়ে ওঠা এসব লেখালেখি অমীমাংসিত প্রশ্নের মতো শূন্যতায় ফিরে যেতে চায়, সামান্যকে জানার ইচ্ছে নিয়ে তারা আবার ফিরে আসতে চায় কথার অভ্যন্তরে। যাতায়াতের এই রাস্তা যেন ছোট-ছোট কাগজের কুঁচি দিয়ে গড়ে দেন স্বর্ণেন্দু।
