বিশ শতকে এ দেশের ভাস্করদের মধ্যে সর্ব অর্থেই অগ্রগণ্যা ছিলেন মীরা মুখোপাধ্যায়। বিষয়-ভাবনায় এবং প্রয়োগ-কৌশলে তাঁর কাজ একদিকে যেমন খাঁটি দেশজ, অন্য দিকে তেমনই তা স্পর্শ করে আছে সর্বজাতিক ঐতিহ্য। শিল্পী বা ভাস্কর হিসেবে তিনি যেমন অনন্য, মানুষ হিসেবেও ছিলেন তেমনই অসাধারণ। জীবন আর শিল্প তাঁর কাছে আলাদা কিছু ছিল না, বরং দুয়ে মিলে হয়ে উঠেছিল অননুকরণীয় জীবনশিল্প। এই বইয়ের লেখিকা স্বয়ং ভাস্কর হওয়ার সুবাদে একসময়ে তাঁকে দেখেছেন খুব কাছ থেকে, এবং সেই সূত্রেই মীরা-র কাজের পদ্ধতি ও প্রকরণের দিকটি যেমন তাঁর কাছে স্পষ্ট হয়েছে, তেমনই মীরা-র কাজের মর্মজগতটিও তাঁর কাছে অধরা থাকেনি। মীরা-র অসংখ্য ভাস্কর্যের ছবি দিয়ে সাজানো এ বই একদিক থেকে অনন্য।
